The dinner at Gibby’s was the best in every way that I’ve had presumably since the last time I was in New Orleans where the best restaurant I know of anywhere (G.W. Fins) is located. Gibby’s is in an old stable in Old Montreal with stone walls and a beamed ceiling. The food was very good, and the service was outstanding. They had far more service personnel that any other restaurant on the trip, many of which were understaffed. I had a nice talk with one waiter who remembered a restaurant I spoke of where I had had the same dish many years ago that has long since closed (Le Papillon Gourmand). After the salad, they brought a “palate cleanser”, a very small scoop of sherbet - I’ve only seen that a couple of times ever. After the main course, they brought a finger bowl(!), I think I’ve seen that before. It was $125 Canadian (about $95 US) with no drinks, actually not bad for what it was.
